Going Back To My Roots

received_365796010946288.jpeg

This project was to create and photograph your artwork that represents the NHS.

This artwork was to represent my personal journey of recovery after being diagnosed with scoliosis and having corrective surgery.

The idea of the tree was to show growth and blooming into the person I am today because of the NHS.

The tree trunk itself was created by making a mould of a model spine I twisted to show the spine and creating the sculpture using plaster of paris.

To make it look more natural as a tree, I took the photograph in a forest and planted flowers around the art piece and took the photograph using my Nikon camera.

There was an official ribbon cutting to open the exhibition. In the exhibition, I read out my poem I created to describe the artwork and the meaning of it to to the viewers in the exhibition. This artwork is now on display in St Woolos Hospital with some of my other peers' artwork.

Going Back To My Roots Poem

Through a big change in llife,
Through the new experiences after,
You start to grow and develop,
And start a new chapter.

When I think of my scoliosis journey,
As a tree full of flowers,
Each branch, petal and leaf,
Shows myself through these flowers.

From a single X-ray,
To a life changing operation,
The NHS give their full support,
And showed their dedication.

There is a link however,
To the NHS and your own story,
With every new experience and change,
They both show a tremendous glory.

Always let yourself grow,
Into the person you call you,
But just remember that the NHS is there, And is growing everyday too.
